De Nora and Maffei Sarda Silicati complete 1 MW green hydrogen plant in Sardinia

Industrie De Nora and Maffei Sarda Silicati have completed the installation, testing and commissioning of a 1 MW Dragonfly® electrolyzer at Maffei Sarda Silicati’s production site in Florinas, Sassari, Sardinia.

The project, supported by Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), will enable the production of up to 50 metric tons of green hydrogen per year for industrial operations at the site.

The completion of the plant marks a key milestone in efforts to decarbonize industrial production, support the redevelopment of brownfield sites and deploy hydrogen technologies across Italy’s energy transition.

The project was delivered through collaboration between De Nora and Maffei Sarda Silicati, with technical advisor Make Energy, following the issuance of the plant’s installation and testing certificate.

De Nora said the electrolyzer is among the first systems designed, assembled and tested at its new Gigafactory in Cernusco sul Naviglio, supporting the facility’s gradual ramp-up and its role in developing green hydrogen production technologies.

The project also contributes to De Nora’s industrial development activities under the Hy2Tech IPCEI and Italy’s PNRR-supported hydrogen initiatives.

Maffei Sarda Silicati said the project represents a concrete step in its industrial energy transition and reflects the companies’ commitment to developing Italy’s hydrogen ecosystem and reducing emissions from industrial processes.
