American Airlines completes first commercial passenger flight using Infinium’s electro-SAF

American Airlines and Infinium have completed the first commercial passenger flight in the United States using electro sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF) delivered to a commercial airport. The fuel was allocated to an American Airlines flight from Corpus Christi International Airport to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, demonstrating the commercial deployment of power-to-liquids aviation fuel within existing airport infrastructure.

The eSAF was produced at Infinium’s Pathfinder facility in Corpus Christi, the company’s commercial-scale power-to-liquids plant, using waste CO₂ and renewable electricity. After being blended with conventional jet fuel to meet ASTM Jet A specifications, the fuel was delivered through the airport’s standard fuel storage and distribution system, demonstrating compatibility with existing aircraft and refuelling infrastructure.

According to Infinium, the eSAF can reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by more than 90% compared with conventional petroleum-based jet fuel. The flight also marks the first delivery of sustainable aviation fuel produced without biobased feedstocks to a commercial airport in the United States.

The milestone supports a broader commercial partnership between American Airlines and Infinium. American has signed an offtake agreement for eSAF from Infinium’s Project Roadrunner, a commercial facility currently under construction in Texas that is expected to begin production in 2027. Once operational, the plant is expected to produce more than five million gallons of eSAF annually.

The demonstration represents an important step toward scaling synthetic aviation fuels produced from captured CO₂ and renewable electricity as a lower-carbon alternative for the aviation sector.
